Bio
I think I was born restless. Always on the go, always looking for the next challenge. And the one after that. It was inevitable that I’d end up in Washington, DC, but only when I met my husband, Ron, did I learn to channel all that energy with passion and purpose. I have been a political activist and an advocate for women’s place in politics ever since.
For 43 incredible years, Ron and I navigated the tumultuous world of politics side by side. Our union wasn’t just built on love; it thrived on shared interests and ambitions. He was my biggest cheerleader when I managed Senator Chuck Robb’s statewide campaign and later when I served as chief of staff for Senator Joe Biden. He encouraged me to found The Farm Team, an initiative that grew and became part of the Emerge organization dedicated to empowering women in the political arena. With him by my side, I followed the advice I’d given hundreds of women to run for office—I ran for Lt. Governor of Virginia.
Ron’s passing shook me—a grief so deep and devastating there were times I could barely breathe. I wasn’t prepared. My mother died at 40, so I always thought I’d be the first to go. The essays you’ll find here are part of my journey of rediscovery, finding purpose in solitude, and feeling Ron’s presence, reminding me that he’s still my staunchest ally, reminding me to never give up.
